| Selected taxpayers are able to file their 2006 South Carolina individual income tax returns directly with the Department of Revenue over the Internet utilizing SCnetFile. SCnetFile is available to select full-year/part-year or non-residents filing either SC1040 or SC1040A (short form) South Carolina returns.
SCnetFile allows taxpayers that file federal Schedules C, D, E, and F to participate. Federal schedule information is requested by SCnetFile in order to allow more taxpayers to be eligible to use the program and to keep it paperless. Not all entries made on federal schedules are required to be provided and therefore, not all lines are provided on the federal schedule screens for SCnetFile.
Taxpayers will be able to file their balance due return via SCnetFile and pay by credit card and/or electronic funds withdrawal (EFW). Utilizing EFW will result in funds being automatically withdrawn from your checking or savings account based on the payment date you select. However, you must select a date no later than May 1, 2007 and pay your balance due in full to avoid paying penalties and interest.

At this time, the Department of Revenue will be accepting VISA and MasterCard. There is no additional charge for paying your balance due return by credit card or EFW.
Taxpayers must already have completed both their federal and state tax forms before logging into the program. SCnetFile performs mathematical checks on the South Carolina information submitted. More importantly, taxpayers using SCnetFile will receive an online confirmation that their return has successfully reached the Department of Revenue.

Please review the following Frequently Asked Questions before attempting to use SCnetFile.
Q. I lost the label with my PIN number, or do not have a PIN number. How can I get one?
A. You must have received a pre-addressed booklet or postcard from the Department of Revenue to be eligible to use SCnetFile. Taxpayers who failed to file a prior year's return in a timely manner or first time filers with the State of South Carolina are not issued PINs. You will need to file your return by one of the two Fed/State filing methods or on paper. For security purposes, we are not able to issue new PIN numbers or divulge PIN numbers over the telephone or by email. Taxpayers who may have misplaced their pre-addressed booklet or postcard can call (803) 898-5709 and a replacement booklet or postcard will be mailed to you.
Q. Are there any lines on the SC1040 that would make me ineligible to file via SCnetFile?
A. Yes, you cannot file by SCnetFile if you have information on the following lines:
- Line 7 - Lump Sum Distribution (SC4972)
- Line 8 - Active Trade or Business Income (I-335)
- Line 12 - Other Non-refundable Credits (SC1040TC)
Q. I have my pre-addressed booklet and label, but the system tells me that my login information is invalid. Is there something wrong?
A. While most taxpayers were "pre-qualified" to use SCnetFile, pre-qualification is determined based on the taxpayer's return infomation from last filing season. If your PIN is not accepted by SCnetFile, please contact us by phone at (803) 898-5111 or by email at scnetfile@sctax.org. Generally, taxpayers that cannot "log in" have either locked themselves out by answering a qualifying question incorrectly or the Social Security Number we have on record for the Taxpayer or Spouse is incorrect.
In addition, your web browser must also be set to accept "cookies". Some public access computers with internet access do not allow the computers to accept "cookies"
Q. I have completed my return using SCnetFile. Do I need to mail anything, such as my W2 forms?
A. No. SCnetFile is paperless unless you have a balance due and/or owe Use Tax. You should retain all paperwork for your records. Please print the return information once you receive your confirmation number.
Q. My state withholding ID# doesn't begin with "25" or is not 8 or 9 digits in length or was not provided. Can I still use SCnetFile?
A. SCnetFile would prefer to receive the state ID# (which begins with "25"). However, SCnetFile will accept the Federal ID# if the state number is missing or is displayed incorrectly. The SCDOR cannot provide the state ID# to you, please contact the issuer of the W-2.
SCnetFile is not intended to compete with commercial tax preparation software.
