North Carolina Couple Charged with Tax Evasion
A North Carolina couple who co-own a Myrtle Beach property rental business is facing jail time after South Carolina Department of Revenue investigators charged them with tax evasion today.
Jack Kenny Miller, 54, and his wife, Marilyn Hanes Miller, 54, of Clemmons, N.C., joint owners of Prime Rate Properties, are being held at the Horry County J. Reuben Long Detention Center pending a bond hearing later today. Each is charged with four counts of sales and accommodations tax evasion.
The Millers are accused of failing to report and pay more than $209,742 in sales and accommodations tax from January 2001 through November 2004. During that period, the Millers' Myrtle Beach-area business earned almost $3 million from condominium rentals.
The Millers are each facing up to 20 years in prison and fines up to $40,000 if convicted of all the charges.
The Horry County Sheriff's Office assisted in the couple's arrest.
