Revenue Department reviewing
Regulations affecting small businesses
A new South Carolina law gives small business owners the chance to speak up if they think a state regulation is hurting their business, and the South Carolina Department of Revenue would like to hear from those small business owners who have a comment on its regulations.
Legislators last year passed the “South Carolina Small Business Regulatory Flexibility Act of 2004,” which requires state agencies to review their regulations this year. If the agency determines that a regulation places an “undue” economic hardship on a small business owner, corrective action is to be taken to reduce that impact. The agency can either rescind the regulation or amend it to reduce the burden it places on small business owners.
The Department of Revenue is currently reviewing its regulations and is interested in hearing from small business owners or their employees who believe a particular Department regulation imposes a hardship on their business activities. The Department will accept comments from small business owners
