GREENVILLE MAN ARRESTED ON TAX CHARGES

COLUMBIA, S.C. – A Greenville man has been arrested for failure to file individual income tax returns.

South Carolina Department of Revenue investigators charged Ronald Lee Garrett, 35, with five misdemeanor counts for failure to file an individual income tax return.

Garrett is accused of failing to have South Carolina income tax withheld from his wages for the periods 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003.  In each charge, Garrett allegedly filed an inaccurate W4 form with his employer to reduce the amount of tax withheld from his wages.  Garrett then allegedly failed to file a South Carolina individual income tax return by the date required by South Carolina law, even though his income exceeded the requirement to file an income tax return for that year.

Garrett appeared before Magistrate Judge Horace Butler on Thursday, November 10 and was released on a $5,000 personal recognizance bond.  If convicted on all charges, Garrett faces up to five years in prison and fines up to $50,000.
