Former daycare owner arrested on tax charges

A former Columbia daycare owner was arrested by South Carolina Department of Revenue investigators today on charges for failure to pay over state employer withholding taxes.

Taleeta Nicola Vann, 38, is charged with three counts of failure to account for and pay over employee withholding taxes. She is being held at the Richland County Detention Center pending a bond hearing.

Vann is accused of willfully failing to file quarterly employer withholding tax returns and pay over the monies she collected from her employees’ wages for the years 2002 – 2004.  The revenue department estimates Vann’s total tax liability for 2002-2004 at $7985.

She is facing up to 15 years in prison and fines of up to $30,000 if convicted of all the charges.

There is an ongoing investigation.
