Murrells Inlet Businessman Charged With Tax Evasion
COLUMBIA, S.C. -- South Carolina Department of Revenue investigators today arrested the owner of a popular Murrells Inlet restaurant and bar, charging him with failing to pay the tax on unreported business sales of more that a million dollars.
James David Mills, 51, also known as Jimmy Motley, the owner of SBB Original, is being held at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center following his arrest on 10 counts of state sales tax evasion.
Mills is accused of underreporting the amount of sales from his bar by more than $1.1 million from January 2000 through June 2002. The revenue department estimates Mills owes $55,503 in sales tax on the unreported amount.
Mills is facing up to 50 years in prison and fines of up to $100,000 if convicted of all the charges.
The Horry County Sheriff's Office assisted the revenue department in Mills' arrest.
