Revenue Department Granting Tax Relief in Graniteville
South Carolina Department of Revenue officials said today they will grant tax relief to Graniteville taxpayers affected by the recent chlorine leak.
Graniteville business owners whose operations were affected by the leak, or those taxpayers who have their tax returns prepared by tax professionals whose tax services were interrupted by the leak, will have more time to file their tax returns. The amount of extra time to be granted for filing returns will be determined on a case-by-case basis after the agency reviews each taxpayer's situation.
The revenue department will also temporarily suspend enforced collections of any affected taxpayer, will waive any tax penalties due as a result of deadline extensions or suspension of collection activities against them, and will provide at no charge to the taxpayer copies of any tax returns destroyed by the chemical leak.
Other tax relief may be available to affected taxpayers and that also will be determined after the department reviews the taxpayer's individual circumstances.
Those seeking relief should contact the Department of Revenue at (803) 898-5709.
