MIDLANDS RESIDENT ARRESTED ON TAX CHARGES
Columbia, S.C. - South Carolina Department of Revenue (SCDOR) investigators yesterday charged Midlands resident Linda Jean Taylor Cotton, 36, with three counts of furnishing false documents to SC DOR, seven counts of willfully assisting in the presentation of false documents and seven counts of criminal conspiracy, all in the calendar years 2003-2005.
Cotton of 305 Squire Rd. allegedly submitted to the SC Department of Revenue her income tax returns with fraudulent W-2 forms, thus violating SC Code Section 12-54-44(B)(4); allegedly assisted others in presenting to the Department of Revenue tax returns with fraudulent W-2 forms in violation of SC Code Section 12-54-44(B)(6)(a)(ii); and, Cotton has allegedly conspired with others to present fraudulent W-2 forms with their income tax returns filed with the Department of Revenue in violation of SC Code Section 16-17-410.
She was arrested and being held at the Richland County Detention Center, but has since made bond.
Cotton is facing up to 73 years in prison and fines of up to $10,000 if convicted of the charges
