FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 26 February 2008
Myrtle Beach man charged with tax evasion
A Myrtle Beach timeshare salesman is in jail today following his arrest by South Carolina Department of Revenue investigators on state income tax evasion charges.
James Spencer Wilson, III, 49, is being held at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center pending a bond hearing. He is charged with three counts of tax evasion from 2004 - 2006.
A revenue department investigation showed Wilson failed to report income of $345,525 during that period and pay state income tax of $17,158. Wilson also is alleged to have filed a fraudulent W-4 with his employer claiming he was exempt form state taxes to avoid having taxes withheld from his pay.
He is facing up to 15 years in prison and fines of up to $30,000 if convicted of the charges.
The Horry County Sheriff's Office assisted with Wilson's arrest.
