Greenville man arrested second time for tax evasion
A Greenville County man is being held in the Greenville County Detention Center today after South Carolina Department of Revenue investigators charged him with tax evasion for the second time in three years.
Michael A. Sanders, 35, is being held on a $5,000 surety bond after being charged with two counts of state income tax evasion for 2006 and 2007. He was previously arrested by the department in 2005 on a similar charge and was on probation from that charge.
Sanders is accused of providing his employer with a fraudulent W-4 Withhholding Form claiming to be exempt from state taxes. The department estimates Sanders' tax liability at $1,729 for the years he failed to file.
He is facing up to 10 years in prison and fines of up to $20,000 if convicted of all the charges.
