Greer Woman Arrested on Tax Charges

Cheryl Bell, a Greer resident, was arrested Tuesday on felony income tax charges.

South Carolina Department of Revenue investigators charged Ms. Bell with seven counts of Income Tax Evasion for tax years 2003-2009.

The DOR investigation showed Bell earned income in excess of $305,855 from 2003 to 2009. Bell is accused of filing fraudulent W-4 withholding forms with her employer to avoid having taxes withheld from her wages.  Bell's state tax liability for the period charged is $13,088.25;  she is facing up to 35 years in prison and fines of up to $70,000 if convicted of the charges.

Bell is being held at the Greenville County Detention Center pending a bond hearing.
