Columbia man arrested on tax charge
Columbia, SC --- Michael A. Bullock, a Columbia resident, was arrested today by the SC Department of Revenue on one count of furnishing a false document.
For tax year 2009, Bullock, 41, attempted to obtain a SC individual income tax refund in the amount of $2,295, to which he was not entitled.
Bullock submitted a 2009 SC income tax return to DOR with a W-2 form that contained questionable withholding tax information. After DOR investigators requested additional information from Bullock in regards to the W-2 form, Bullock then provided DOR with a fraudulent W-2 form which had been altered. The fraudulent W-2 form that had been altered from an original indicated that Bullock’s SC tax withheld was $2,960, when in fact the actual SC tax withheld was $960.
If convicted of the charges, Bullock could face up to one year in prison and/or $5,000 in fines.
Bullock is currently being held at the Orangeburg Detention Center pending a bond hearing. The Orangeburg Department of Public Safety assisted with the arrest.
