Owner of Tammy’s Tax Service arrested for filing fraudulent returns

Charleston, SC --- Tax preparer and owner of Tammy’s Tax Service in Moncks Corner, Tammy Brinson, was arrested today after SC Department of Revenue investigators discovered Brinson filed fraudulent tax returns in her clients’ names.

Brinson was arrested on nine counts of willfully assisting in the preparation of false or fraudulent tax returns. For tax years 2007 and 2008, Brinson met with clients and filed income tax returns in their names and unbeknownst to the clients, Brinson filed the returns with fraudulent information. Each of the clients was unaware that Brinson submitted wrongful information, thus resulting in the clients receiving fraudulent refunds.

Brinson is currently being held at the Hill-Finklea Detention Center pending a bond hearing and if convicted of the charges could face up to 45 years in prison and/or $4,500 in fines.
