Greer man arrested on tax charges
Reginald Smith, a Greer resident, was arrested Monday morning on felony income tax charges.
South Carolina Department of Revenue (SCDOR) investigators charged Smith with four counts of income tax evasion for tax years 2007 through 2010.
The SCDOR investigation showed Smith earned income of $233,394 from 2007 through 2010; Smith is accused of filing fraudulent W4 withholding forms with his employer to avoid having taxes withheld from his wages. Smith had no state income tax withheld during tax years 2007 through 20010; his state tax liability for the period charged is $11,958. Smith is facing up to 20 years in prison and/or fines of up to $40,000 if convicted of the charges.
Reginald Smith is currently being held at the Greenville County Detention Center pending a bond hearing.
