Lexington woman arrested for forgery

SC Department of Revenue investigators today arrested Lachanda Simmons of Lexington for one count of forgery. In 2010, Simmons provided her personal information to another individual in order to have a 2009 income tax return prepared and submitted in her name.

Although Simmons did not have a requirement to file, the filing of the 2009 income tax return which included a fraudulent W2 form generated tax refunds totaling $7,252, to which she was not entitled.

Lachanda Simmons, 33, is currently being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center in Columbia pending a bond hearing. Simmons could face up to five years in prison and/or be fined in the discretion of the court if convicted of the forgery charge.
