Manning tax preparer arrested

SC Department of Revenue investigators arrested Margie E. Wilkins this morning for 12 counts of assisting in the preparation of a false income tax return. Wilkins, 64, is the owner and operator of Liz Tax Service in Manning.

During 2009 – 2010, Wilkins prepared approximately 344 tax returns. Audits during this time revealed a consistent pattern of inflated W2 information and/or false deductions on prepared tax returns.

If found guilty of all 12 charges Wilkins could face up to 60 years in prison and/or $6,000 in fines.
