FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE July 25, 2012
Greenville restaurant owner arrested on tax charges
A Greenville restaurant owner was arrested today by South Carolina Department of Revenue investigators and charged with six counts of felony income tax evasion. Macias “Larry” Rodriguez owned and operated several Guadalajara Mexican Restaurants in Greenville County from 2005 through 2010. Rodriguez is accused of filing false sales tax returns for his restaurants during this period. Investigators allege that Rodriguez failed to report more than $4.5 million of gross sales from his restaurants from 2005-2010. By failing to report all of the gross sales from his restaurants, Rodriguez evaded payment of more than $259,000 of state sales tax. If convicted, Rodriguez is facing up to 30 years in prison and up to $60,000 in fines.
