Myrtle Beach resident arrested for income tax charge
Columbia, SC (August 9, 2012) --- Investigators from the South Carolina Department of Revenue today arrested Jamon Gerard Canty of Myrtle Beach for one count of assisting in the preparation of a false tax return.
In 2012, Canty provided to a tax preparer a fraudulent W2 form stating he had earned $15,589 in wages and $701 in state taxes withheld; Canty did not work for the employer listed on the W2 form. As a result, Canty submitted a fraudulent individual income tax return and requested a state tax refund of $701.
If convicted of the felony charge, Jamon Gerard Canty could face up to $500 in fines and/or up to 5 years in prison.
As the investigation is ongoing, more arrests are expected.
