West Columbia resident arrested for income tax evasion
Columbia, SC (August 13, 2012) --- Jeffrey A. Davis was arrested over the weekend and charged with two counts of income tax evasion and one count of failure to file taxes.
In 2008, Davis willfully failed to file a SC income tax return for wages earned even though his income was in excess of the minimum filing requirements.
During 2010 and 2011, Davis, who is currently employed by Palmetto Health, evaded income taxes by failing to file SC tax returns which, by law, he was required to do given the income he earned during that time. Also during this time, Davis filed with his employer employee withholding allowance certificates claiming exempt status.
If convicted of the charges, Davis could face up to 11 years in prison and/or $30,000 in fines. Davis’ tax liability for 2008, 2010 and 2011 totals $5,860.
