Conway woman arrested for tax charges

Columbia, SC (August 15, 2012) --- Officials from the SC Department of Revenue (SCDOR) today arrested Exstraney Oliver of Conway, SC for two counts of tax related charges.

Oliver, 30, was taken to the J. Reuben Long Detention Facility where she is currently awaiting a bond hearing. Oliver is accused of one count of assisting in the preparation of a false tax return and one count of conspiracy; she could face penalties of up to $5,500 in fines and/or 10 years in prison if convicted of the charges.

The SCDOR investigation revealed that Oliver knowingly presented a fraudulent W2 form to a tax preparer in order to have her 2011 income tax return submitted. Oliver did not work for the employer listed on the W2, but stated she had an income of $16,540 and $744 in state wages withheld, and therefore claimed a state refund of $744.

In addition, Oliver and another individual conspired to commit the offense of willfully assisting in the preparation of a false income tax return. Oliver was advised of the tax scam by another individual as this individual provided to Oliver the fraudulent W2 tax form for a fee.

As this investigation is ongoing in Horry County, more arrests are expected.
