Conway woman arrested on tax charge

Columbia, SC (August 21, 2012) --- Jessica West of Conway was arrested this morning by the SC Department of Revenue for one count of willfully assisting in the preparation of a false tax return. West is currently being held at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.

In early 2012, West provided to a tax preparer a fraudulent W2 form that stated she had an income of $16,998 and $764 in state taxes withheld. Although she did not work for the employer listed, West requested a state tax refund in the amount of $764 to which she was not entitled.

If convicted of the felony charge, Jessica West, 28, could face up to $500 in fines and/or up to 5 years in prison.
