SCDOR arrests woman in Horry County for tax fraud
Columbia, SC (September 10, 2012) --- Andrea Darshae Brooks was arrested this morning and taken to the J. Reuben Long Detention Center in Conway for one count of assisting in the preparation of a false tax return.
According to South Carolina Department of Revenue investigators, Brooks provided a fraudulent W2 tax form to her tax preparer. Brooks did not work for the employer indicated, and the W2 tax form stated that she earned $14,988 in wages and had $674 in state taxes withheld. As a result of the fraudulent W2 tax form, Brooks submitted a fraudulent 2011 individual income tax return and requested a state tax refund of $674 to which she was not entitled.
If convicted of the felony charge, Brooks, 26, could face up to $500 in fines and/or up to 5 years in prison.
