Beaufort County’s Transportation Tax Reaches Local Goal

Columbia, SC (September 10, 2012) --- The local Transportation Tax that is currently imposed in Beaufort County will expire at the end of September since the maximum tax needed has been collected.

This 1% local tax, collected by the SC Department of Revenue on behalf of the county, was implemented in Beaufort County in 2007 to fund various transportation projects.

Therefore, retail sales made on or after October 1, 2012 will not be subject to the 1% tax, and only the 6% statewide sales tax will be imposed in Beaufort County.
