Myrtle Beach local arrested on tax charge
Columbia, SC (September 14, 2012) --- South Carolina Department of Revenue investigators today arrested a Myrtle Beach man on a tax charge.
Adam Jarrett was taken to the J. Reuben Long Detention Center Friday afternoon and charged with assisting in the preparation of a false return. If convicted of the charge, Jarrett could face up to $500 in fines and/or up to five years in prison.
In 2011, Jarrett knowingly provided a fraudulent W2 form to a tax preparer in order to have his income taxes prepared. Although he did not work for the employer indicated, the W2 form stated that Jarrett had an earned income of $15,702 and $706 in state wages withheld. As a result, Jarrett requested a state tax refund of $706 to which he was not entitled.
