Conway local arrested on felony tax charges

Columbia, SC (September 27, 2012) --- Amy McAllister of Conway was arrested this afternoon on tax-related charges and taken to the J. Reuben Long Detention Center.

According to investigators from the SC Department of Revenue, McAllister was charged with one count of forgery, one count of assisting in the preparation of a false income tax return and two counts of conspiracy. McAllister, 26, is currently awaiting a bond hearing and if convicted of the charges could face up to $10,500 in fines and/or 20 years in prison.

McAllister presented a fraudulent W2 form to a tax preparer in order to have a 2011 income taxes prepared even though she did not work for the employer listed on the tax form. The forged W2 stated that McAllister had earned $13,200 in wages and had $594 in wages withheld; she claimed federal and state refunds in the amount of $5,740 to which she was not entitled.

Investigators proved that McAllister conspired to willfully assist in the preparation of a fraudulent tax return with other individuals.
