Charleston woman arrested for tax charges

Columbia, SC (October 30, 2012) --- Ashley Alston was arrested today by the SC Department of Revenue for two counts of assisting in the preparation of a false income tax return and three counts of forgery.

If convicted of the five charges, Alston, 27, could face penalties of up to 30 years in prison and/or be fined in the discretion of the court.

In order to file 2009, 2010 and 2011 income tax returns, Alston, a Mt. Pleasant resident, submitted fraudulent W2 forms to the state. In turn, Alston received fraudulent state tax refunds totaling $1,661 for these years, to which she was not entitled.
