Lexington Resident Arrested for Income Tax Charges

Columbia, SC (February 28, 2013) --- Michael Marlowe, 41, was arrested this morning by SC Department of Revenue officials and charged with two counts of failure to file income tax returns and two counts of income tax evasion.

Marlowe, a Lexington County resident, earned a gross income of $115,761 with a tax liability of $5,483 for tax years 2007 and 2008, but failed to file tax returns for those years.

During 2009 and 2010, Marlowe filed withholding certificates claiming to be exempt from taxes even though he earned $110,115 in income. Marlowe failed to file tax returns for these years and evaded state income taxes of $5,467.

If convicted of all four charges, Marlowe could face up to 12 years in prison and/or be fined up to $40,000. The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department assisted with the arrest.
