Greenville County Woman Arrested for Evading Income Taxes

Columbia, SC (March 26, 2013) --- Investigators with the SC Department of Revenue today arrested a woman from Hodges for five counts of income tax evasion.

With a current state tax liability of $8,845, Mabel Anderson was arrested and charged with attempting to evade paying income taxes by failing to file tax returns for tax years 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009.

Also during these years, Anderson filed multiple W-4 forms with her employer claiming an “exempt” status which caused zero taxes to be withheld from her paychecks.

Anderson, 52, could face up to $50,000 in fines and/or up to 25 years in prison if convicted on all counts. Anderson is currently being held at the Greenville County Detention Center where she is awaiting a bond hearing.

The Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the arrest.
