Georgetown Woman Arrested on Fraudulent Tax Charges
Columbia, SC (April 17, 2013) --- Ira Lanina Shacoca Grier was arrested today by investigators with the SC Department of Revenue for two counts of income tax related charges.
Grier, a resident of Psalms Lane in Georgetown, was taken to the Georgetown County Detention Center where she was charged with one count of forgery and one count of obtaining a signature or property by false pretenses; she is currently awaiting a bond hearing.
In 2012, Grier prepared and submitted a fraudulent 2011 individual income tax return along with a falsified W-2 form. The wages and taxes withheld on the W-2 were inflated from what was originally reported on her legitimate W-2 form, and as a result, Grier claimed a state tax refund of $1,446 to which she was not entitled.
If convicted of the charges, Grier, 26, could face penalties of up to 5 years in prison and/or up to $1,000 in fines.
