Florence Woman Arrested for Evading Income Taxes

Columbia, SC (September 16, 2013) --- Department of Revenue investigators today arrested Nanette Watford of Florence on four tax evasion charges.

Watford, 49, could face up to 20 years in prison and/or up to $40,000 in fines for the charges covering tax years 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011.

During this time, Watford earned $280,351 in wages and filed W4 withholding certificates claiming excessive exemptions which caused minimum South Carolina income tax to be withheld from her paychecks. Watford also failed to file South Carolina income tax returns as required by law, therefore avoiding paying $9,923 in state taxes.

Watford, a resident of Wallace Road, is currently being held at the Florence County Detention Center pending a bond hearing.
