Greenville Resident Arrested for Tax Evasion

Columbia, SC (September 20, 2013) --- Gregory Simpson was arrested Friday by SC Department of Revenue officials on state tax evasion charges.

The Greenville resident was charged at the Spartanburg County Detention Center on three counts of tax evasion. Simpson could face up to 15 years in prison and/or up to $30,000 in fines if convicted.

For 2009 through 2011, Simpson, 46, failed to file required income tax returns. Simpson also filed W4 forms with his employer claiming to be exempt from income taxes.

Minimum income taxes were withheld from his paychecks, and therefore Simpson has an outstanding South Carolina tax liability of $13,430.
