Tax Preparer Arrested on 14 Fraudulent Tax Charges

Columbia, SC (December 17, 2013) --- An Orangeburg County resident was arrested today by SC Department of Revenue (DOR) investigators and charged with 14 counts of preparing fraudulent income tax returns.

Felix Florian Campbell, 54, is currently being held at the Orangeburg-Calhoun Regional Detention Center where he is awaiting a bond hearing.

For tax years 2008 through 2012, Campbell is accused of preparing income tax returns for clients that included fraudulent tax deductions reported as fictitious expenses and business losses from businesses that did not exist. The income tax returns prepared by Campbell created larger refunds to which his clients were not entitled. Campbell’s clients were not aware of their tax returns being filed fraudulently.

If convicted, Campbell could face up to five years in prison for each of the felony tax charges and up to $7,000 in fines.

The Orangeburg Department of Public Safety assisted with the arrest.
