Charleston Man Arrested on State Tax Charges

Columbia, SC (January 24, 2014) --- SC Department of Revenue investigators today arrested Jerry Walker of Charleston on four counts of state income tax charges.

Walker, 57, was charged with two counts of assisting in the preparation of false income tax returns and two counts of forgery. He is currently being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.

For tax years 2008 and 2010, Walker filed individual income tax returns using fraudulent W2 forms from employers for which he did not work. By submitting the fraudulent returns, Walker subsequently received state income tax refunds for these years in the amounts of $574 and $567, respectively. Walker’s state and federal tax liability totals $11,769 for the period.

If convicted of the charges, Walker could face up to $1,000 in fines or 20 years in jail.
