Former Horry County Restaurant Owner Arrested for Sales Tax Evasion
SC Department of Revenue (SCDOR) officials today arrested former North Myrtle Beach restaurant owner Jason Sobota on eight counts of sales tax evasion.
Sobota, currently a Florida resident, previously owned and operated two establishments, Deckerz and Snooky’s, for which he underreported gross sales for 2009 through 2012 which resulted in fraudulent sales tax returns being submitted to SCDOR.
Investigators allege that Sobota failed to report more than $1.8 million of gross sales from his establishments from 2009-2012. By failing to report all of the gross sales, he evaded $39,926 in sales tax for Deckerz and $106,720 in sales tax for Snooky’s.
If convicted of the charges, Sobota, 37, could face up to $80,000 in fines and 40 years in prison. Sobota is currently being held at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center in Conway pending a bond hearing.
