Three NC Residents Arrested for Forgery and Assisting in the Preparation of a False or Fraudulent Tax Return

 

North Carolina residents Veda McMillon, Janice Evans, and Versie McMillon were each arrested today on three counts of Forgery and three counts of Assisting in the Preparation of a False or Fraudulent Tax Return for tax years 2009, 2010, and 2011.

 

Veda McMillon, 32, knowingly provided fraudulent wage and tax statement W-2 forms to a tax preparer to have 2009, 2010 and 2011 South Carolina individual income tax returns prepared. The returns were filed with the fraudulent W-2 forms with requested refunds totaling $26,062 of which the defendant was not entitled.

 

Janice Evans, 59, knowingly provided fraudulent wage and tax statement W-2 forms to a tax preparer to have 2009, 2010 and 2011 South Carolina individual income tax returns prepared. The returns were filed with the fraudulent W-2 forms with requested refunds totaling $24,037 of which the defendant was not entitled.

 

Versie McMillon, 29, knowingly provided fraudulent wage and tax statement W-2 forms to a tax preparer to have 2009, 2010 and 2011 South Carolina individual income tax returns prepared. The returns were filed with the fraudulent W-2 forms with requested refunds totaling $26,202 of which the defendant was not entitled.

 

The defendants are being held at the J. Rueben Long Detention Center pending a bond hearing. If convicted of these charges, each defendant could be fined up to $1,500 and/or be imprisoned for up to 30 years.
