Anderson man charged with tax evasion
An Anderson County man is in jail today following his arrest by South Carolina Department of Revenue investigators on tax evasion charges.
Darwin G. Rencher, 43, a resident of Anderson, was charged with six counts of state income tax evasion and is being held at the Spartanburg County Detention Center pending a bond hearing.
Rencher is accused of failing to file state income tax returns while employed with a Spartanburg County manufacturer from 1998 – 2003. The Department of Revenue investigation showed Rencher filed fraudulent W-4 withholding forms with his employer during that period to avoid having state taxes withheld from his pay. His tax liability for the years he failed to file is $6,109.
Rencher could be jailed for up to five years and fined up to $10,000 on each count if convicted of the charges.
