Hanahan plumber pleads guilty to tax charges

A Hanahan plumber pleaded guilty today to one count of failure to file a South Carolina income tax return. Clarence W. Gasperson, 51, of 6026 Rembert Drive, Hanahan, was sentenced to one year in jail suspended to one year of probation and 15 days of community service.

Gasperson was indicted along with his wife, Linda M. Gasperson, 51, of three counts each of failure to file income tax returns for 1992-1994. Linda Gasperson is a school teacher in the Charleston County School District and a former real estate agent. She was not required to plead guilty as part of the state's plea agreement.

Clarence Gasperson also was ordered by Circuit Judge Edward Cottingham to file his tax returns for 1995 and 1996, which are delinquent.

The Gaspersons failed to report $93,678 in income for the years 1992-1994.
