SOUTH CAROLINA TAXPAYERS CAN NOW FILE EXTENSIONS AND DECLARATIONS ONLINE
South Carolina taxpayers who file extensions and declarations can now do so
online via SCnetFile.
"We’re very pleased that South Carolina taxpayers have embraced online
technology and we’re working to offer them even more options," said
Elizabeth Carpentier, Director of the South Carolina Department of Revenue.
The SC 1040ES is the Declaration of Estimated tax form. Generally,
self-employed persons, taxpayers who do not have taxes withheld, and retirees
are among those who file this form. The SC1040 ES is filed quarterly in April,
June, September and January.
The SC 4868 is used by individuals for filing extensions. By filing this form
taxpayers avoid a hefty failure to file penalty. Remember - an extension is a
prolonging of time to file, not of time to pay. (In an innovation unique
to South Carolina, those who choose an electronic "FastFile" method of
filing their return automatically receive an extension of the time for filing
and payment to May 1st.)
Now there’s a paperless way to file both of these forms. Simply go to the
South Carolina Department of Revenue website at www.sctax.org
Click on SCnetFile for Extensions (SC4868) and/or SCnetFile for Declarations (SC
1040ES) - it’s right there on our home page.
In 1999 more than 61-thousand taxpayers filed extensions in South Carolina;
Roughly 400-thousand declarations were filed during the same period.
