BUSINESS OWNERS MUST FILE A TAX RETURN EVEN IF NO SALES WERE REPORTED DURING
THE FILING PERIOD COVERED
A tax return must be filed in South Carolina even if no sales were made
during a filing period. The same rule applies even if the business has closed.
Now there’s an easy and convenient way for taxpayers to fulfill this
obligation. The program is called Business Tax TeleFile and it’s
available twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.
To qualify, Sales tax filers must have have zero gross proceeds of
sales, rentals, use tax or withdrawals for your own use for the filing period
covered. Withholding tax filers must have zero payments due for the filing
period covered. The entire registration and filing process takes less than five
minutes for sales and less than ten minutes for withholding.
First time users are required to register on the Business Tax TeleFile System
before filing. You can do this during your initial phone call. To use the
Business Tax TeleFile System call (803) 898-5918 and follow the voice prompt
instructions.
Business Tax TeleFile is a paperless process. There is no need to mail any
additional documents to the Department of Revenue.
If you need additional assistance you can contact the Busines Tax TeleFile
Help Line statewide at (800) 476-0311.
