Georgetown women being held on tax charges

Two Georgetown women are being held in an Horry County jail on multiple tax fraud charges after turning themselves into South Carolina Department of Revenue investigators today.

Cynthia Ann Moore, 32, and Kaisha Zendrea Grier, 28, are awaiting a bond hearing at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center in Conway. Moore is charged with two counts of submitting fraudulent tax documents to the Department of Revenue and five counts of assisting in the preparation of fraudulent tax returns. Grier is charged with two counts of submitting fraudulent tax documents, six counts of assisting in the preparation of fraudulent income tax returns and three counts of criminal conspiracy. The revenue department accuses both women of submitting their own fraudulent state income tax returns and assisting others in filing fraudulent tax returns.

The arrest of Moore and Grier follows the June 10 arrest of Tilnesih Shanna Miller of Georgetown, who is accused of conspiring with Grier in the illegal tax scheme. Miller was released on bond following her arrest. No further arrests are expected in this case.

Moore is facing up to 27 years in prison while Grier could be sent to prison for up to 47 years if they are convicted of all the charges.

The Horry County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Department of Revenue in today’s arrests.
