James Jones, 67, owner of J & E Superette, was charged with 32 counts of sales tax evasion after turning himself in to Clarendon County Magistrate B.G. Alderman. Alderman released Jones on a $30,000 personal recognizance bond. Jones is accused of under-reporting sales tax of $38,954 he collected from his customers from May 2001 – December 2002. He is facing up to five years in prison and fines of up to $10,000 on each count if he is convicted. Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office deputies assisted the Department of Revenue in Jones’ arrest. ###
