Georgetown resident charged with tax fraud

A Georgetown resident is being held at the Georgetown County Detention Center today after South Carolina Department of Revenue investigators charged her with state income tax fraud.

Tilnesih Shanna Miller, 22, of 5810 Exodus Drive, was charged with four counts of submitting falsified tax documents to the Department of Revenue and three counts of criminal conspiracy in assisting other taxpayers in receiving illegal tax refunds. She is being held at the detention center pending a bond hearing.

Miller is accused of attempting to receive illegal tax refunds by submitting fraudulent W-2 forms with her tax returns filed from 1999 – 2002. She also is accused of assisting in criminal activity by allowing other taxpayers to receive illegal tax refunds at her post office box. Miller is facing up to 19 years in prison and fines up to $35,000 if convicted of all the charges.

The department’s investigation is ongoing and more arrests are expected.  The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Department of Revenue in Miller’s arrest.
