To help homeowners understand the state’s tax laws on renting their home to vacation guests, the South Carolina Department of Revenue has issued Revenue Ruling #04-12 explaining in detail the circumstances under which homeowners must collect the sales tax on accommodations. The ruling also gives the circumstances in which the property may be exempt from taxes. The ruling is available at the department’s website, www.sctax.org, under “What’s New.” ###
