Barnwell County woman arrested on tax fraud charges
A Williston woman is in jail today after South Carolina Department of Revenue investigators charged her with submitting fraudulent tax documents to the agency.
Eartha Mae Robinson, 47, is being held at the Barnwell County Detention Center pending a bond hearing following her arrest on five counts of forgery and four counts of submitting fraudulent tax documents to the Department of Revenue.
Robinson is accused of filing her 2003 - 2006 state tax returns using bogus
W-2 wage and earning statements to illegally receive tax refunds. Robinson fabricated W-2s showing taxes withheld from companies where she was not employed. She also is accused of preparing fraudulent tax returns using the names of others to receive illegal refunds. The DOR investigation showed Robinson received a total of $3,223 in illegal tax refunds during the years charged.
Robinson is facing up to 45 years in prison and fines of up to $40,000 if convicted of all the charges.
