Charleston Real Estate Agent Charged with Tax Crime

South Carolina Department of Revenue investigators arrested a prominent Charleston real estate agent today on charges of failing to file state tax returns.  

John Morgan Settle III, 47, was charged with six counts of willfully failing to file his state income tax returns from 1997 - 2002. Charleston County Magistrate Priscilla Baldwin released Settle on a $30,000 personal recognizance bond following his arrest.

The revenue department estimates Settle's income tax liability at $45,066 for the period he failed to file. He is facing up to six years in prison and fines of up to $60,000 if convicted of all the charges.
