S.C. DEPARTMENT OF REVENUE ANNOUNCES WORKSHOP FOR RETAILERS CONDUCTING BUSINESS IN FAIRFIELD COUNTY

Workshop To Address 1% Local Option Sales Tax for Retailers Located in or Making Sales in Fairfield County

WHAT:      

The S.C. Department of Revenue will host a workshop regarding the 1% Local Option Sales tax that will go into effect May 1, 2006 in Fairfield County.  The workshop is open to all retailers located in or making sales in Fairfield County.

Thursday, March 30 at 1:30 p.m. and again at 5:30 p.m.

WHY:      

Effective Monday, May 1, 2006, Fairfield County will impose a new 1% Local Option Sales tax.  As a result, all sales of merchandise made in or delivered to Fairfield County will be subject to 6% sales and use tax (or 8% accommodations tax). This change in the tax rate is the result of voter approval of an additional 1% local sales and use tax to reduce the property tax burden in Fairfield County.
