Former Greenville Resident Arrested on Tax Evasion

Greenville, SC…South Carolina Department of Revenue investigators arrested a former Greenville resident today for failing to file his state income tax returns for a four-year period.

Phillip Jeffrey Day, 53, is being held in the Greenville County jail pending a bond hearing. Day is being  charged with four counts of income tax evasion. He is accused of failing to file individual income tax returns for tax periods 2003 and 2005-2007. During the period, he filed with his employer an employee withholding allowance certificate claiming to be exempt from withholding tax.

The Department estimates Day owes $32,145 in individual income taxes for these years. The subject, who resides at Barnes Bay Anguilla, met investigators in Greenville.

Day is facing up to 20 years in prison and fines of up to $40,000 if convicted of all the charges.

The Greenville County Sheriff's Office assisted the Department of Revenue in Day’s arrest.
