Greenville County Resident Arrested on Tax Charges
A Greenville County resident was jailed today following his arrest for state tax evasion charges.
South Carolina Department of Revenue investigators charged Willie Airline, of Greenville, with two counts of income tax evasion for tax years 2007-2008. He is being held at the Greenville County Detention Center pending a bond hearing.
Airline is accused of both filing fraudulent W-4 withholding forms with his employer to avoid having taxes withheld from his wages and of failing to file his income tax returns for 2007 and 2008. Airline failed to report more than $58,000 of income earned resulting in a state tax liability of $1,390.00 for that period.
This is the second time Airline has faced state tax evasion charges. In 2005, Airline was convicted of state income tax evasion, and is currently on probation for that offense.
He is facing up to 10 years in prison and fines of up to $20,000 if convicted of the charges.
