A Greenville County resident was jailed today following his arrest for state tax evasion charges.

South Carolina Department of Revenue investigators charged Gary Clark, of Greenville, with six counts of income tax evasion for tax years 2003-2008. He is being held at the Greenville County Detention Center pending a bond hearing.

The Department’s investigation showed Clark earned income in excess of $312,000 from 2003 to 2008.  Clark is accused of filing fraudulent W-4 withholding forms with his employer to avoid having taxes withheld from his wages. His state tax liability for the period charged is $10,729.

Clark is facing up to 30 years in prison and fines of up to $60,000 if convicted of the charges.
