Greenville woman arrested on tax charges
AShani Takyiah Martin, a Greenville resident, was arrested Friday on felony income tax charges
South Carolina Department of Revenue investigators charged Ms. Martin with eight counts of Income Tax Evasion for tax years 2002-2009.
The DOR investigation showed Martin earned income in excess of $349,000 from 2002 to 2009; Martin is accused of filing fraudulent W-4 withholding forms with her employer to avoid having taxes withheld from her wages. Martin only had $12 of state income tax withheld from 2002 through 2009; her state tax liability for the period charged is $15,718. She is facing up to 40 years in prison and fines of up to $80,000 if convicted of the charges.The Mauldin Police Department assisted investigators with the arrest.
Martin is being held at the Greenville County Detention Center pending a bond hearing.
